Glossary of tags and terms
Use these when tagging your threads and searching for games.

Game structure

Kinetic novel — a story with no choices; you just read and watch.
Linear — one main path with few meaningful choices.
Branching — choices change routes and endings.
Sandbox — free roam with locations, time of day and events you trigger in any order.
Management / Simulator — run a shop, farm, agency, etc.
Grinding — repeating actions to earn money, stats or affection. Often has cheat options.

Art and presentation

3DCG — renders made in 3D software (Daz, Honey Select, Blender).
2DCG — drawn art.
Animated — contains animations, not just stills.
Voiced — voice acting, full or partial.
Text-based — mostly or only text.

Protagonist and relationships

Male / Female protagonist — who you play as.
Harem — the protagonist can be with several partners.
Romance / Dating sim — relationships are the core of the game.
Vanilla — consensual, affectionate, no extreme content.

Content warnings (always tag these)

NTR — a partner is taken by someone else. Many players avoid it, so tag it clearly.
Cheating / Sharing — infidelity, or partners shared with consent.
Corruption — a character's personality changes step by step over the story.
Femdom / Maledom — one partner dominates.
Non-consent — must be tagged; follow the forum rules.

Status prefixes

Completed — final version released.
On Hold — developer is paused.
Abandoned — developer stopped working on it.

Game engines explained (for players)
The engine prefix on a thread tells you a lot about how a game will run and what you can do with it.

Ren'Py — visual novels

Runs on almost anything; small downloads.
Easy to mod and translate; many games ship Android builds.
Saves usually carry over between versions.

RPG Maker (XP / VX Ace / MV / MZ) — top-down RPGs, often sandbox or exploration

Lightweight; MV and MZ run on JoiPlay for Android.
Lots of plugins and cheat menus available.
Can feel grindy — check the tags.

Unity — 3D games, simulators, animated scenes

Needs a decent graphics card for 3D titles; bigger downloads.
Mods are possible (often via BepInEx) but harder than Ren'Py.
Android only if the developer builds for it.

HTML / Twine — text-heavy or browser games

Plays in any browser, including phones.
Saves live in browser storage — export them.

Unreal Engine — high-end 3D

Best visuals, biggest downloads and hardware needs.
Rarely moddable.

Fixing common errors (Ren'Py, RPG Maker, Unity, Mac, antivirus)

Fixing common errors
Try these first — they fix most problems. Still stuck? Reply with the game name, version, your OS and a screenshot of the error.

Ren'Py: "An exception has occurred" / traceback

Loading an old save after an update is the #1 cause. Start a new game, or load a save from right before the error.
Mods made for another version break games — remove the mod files and try again.
Re-extract the game with 7-Zip; a partially extracted archive causes "couldn't find file" errors.
On Windows, extract to a short path like C:\Games\ — very long paths can fail.

RPG Maker MV / MZ: "Failed to load: img/..." or "audio/..."

A file is missing or was renamed. Re-extract the whole game.
On Linux and Android, file names are case-sensitive — mods with wrong capitalisation can trigger this.

RPG Maker VX Ace / XP: "RGSS3 Player" errors or missing fonts

Install the matching RPG Maker RTP (Run Time Package) from the official RPG Maker site.

Unity: crashes on launch or black screen

Update your graphics drivers.
Start in windowed mode: hold Shift (or Alt) while launching to open the resolution dialog in some games, or add -screen-fullscreen 0 to a shortcut.
Make sure your antivirus didn't quarantine a game file.

Windows: "Windows protected your PC"
SmartScreen shows this for unsigned games. Only click More info → Run anyway for files from the developer's official page.

Mac: "App is damaged and can't be opened"
Right-click the app → Open. If that doesn't work, run this in Terminal (drag the app into the window for the path):

Antivirus flags a game
Game engines sometimes trigger false positives, but don't just ignore warnings. Download only from official developer pages, and check the file on VirusTotal before running it.

Playing PC games on Android (JoiPlay, ports and what works)

Playing PC games on Android

1. Check for an official Android build first
Many Ren'Py developers release an .apk next to the PC version. That's always the smoothest option.

2. JoiPlay for RPG Maker and Ren'Py
JoiPlay is an Android app that runs many RPG Maker (XP, VX, VX Ace, MV, MZ) and Ren'Py games from their PC files.

Install JoiPlay and the plugin for the engine you need (RPG Maker plugin or Ren'Py plugin) from the official JoiPlay sources.
Extract the PC version of the game to your phone's storage (for example Download/Games/).
Open JoiPlay, tap +, and select the game's executable (Game.exe for RPG Maker, the .exe or .py file for Ren'Py).
Give it a name and tap Add. Long-press a game for per-game settings.

Not every game works — heavy scripts or custom plugins can fail. Check the game's thread to see if others got it running.

3. Unity and Unreal games
These can't be converted. They only run on Android if the developer made an Android build.

4. HTML games
If the developer has a web version, play that in your mobile browser. Saves stay in that browser.

Tips

Keep at least twice the game's size free — extraction needs room.
Use a file manager that handles .zip / .7z / .rar.
Copy your saves before updating (see the save-files guide).

Where are my save files?
Back up your saves before updating a game or reinstalling Windows. Here's where each engine keeps them.

Ren'Py

Windows: %APPDATA%\RenPy\ — paste it into the File Explorer address bar.
Inside the game folder: game\saves (Ren'Py keeps a copy in both places).
Mac: ~/Library/RenPy/
Linux: ~/.renpy/

Tip: when moving to a new version, copy the game/saves folder into the new version's game folder.

RPG Maker MV / MZ

MV: www/save/ inside the game folder (files like file1.rpgsave).
MZ: save/ inside the game folder (files like file1.rmmzsave).

RPG Maker VX Ace / XP

Directly in the game folder: Save01.rvdata2 (VX Ace) or Save1.rxdata (XP).

Unity

Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\\
Some Unity games store settings or saves in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\\
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support//
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d//

HTML / Twine games
Saves live in your browser's storage. Clearing browser data or switching browsers deletes them — use the game's Save to disk / Export option to keep a file.

Unreal Engine
