Where are my save files?
Back up your saves before updating a game or reinstalling Windows. Here's where each engine keeps them.

Ren'Py
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\RenPy\<GameName-number> — paste it into the File Explorer address bar.
  • Inside the game folder: game\saves (Ren'Py keeps a copy in both places).
  • Mac: ~/Library/RenPy/<GameName>
  • Linux: ~/.renpy/<GameName>
Tip: when moving to a new version, copy the game/saves folder into the new version's game folder.

RPG Maker MV / MZ
  • MV: www/save/ inside the game folder (files like file1.rpgsave).
  • MZ: save/ inside the game folder (files like file1.rmmzsave).

RPG Maker VX Ace / XP
  • Directly in the game folder: Save01.rvdata2 (VX Ace) or Save1.rxdata (XP).

Unity
  • Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\<Company>\<Game>
  • Some Unity games store settings or saves in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\<Company>\<Game>
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/<Company>/<Game>
  • Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/<Company>/<Game>

HTML / Twine games
Saves live in your browser's storage. Clearing browser data or switching browsers deletes them — use the game's Save to disk / Export option to keep a file.

Unreal Engine
  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\<Game>\Saved\SaveGames

Found a game that saves somewhere else? Reply and we'll add it.
